(Bronx, NY) - Gustavo Rivera, candidate for Bronx Senate, will unveil a major education initiative on Wednesday in front of education leaders, including members of the UFT and its statewide affiliate, the New York State United Teachers, who will be endorsing Rivera for the Senate.
Rivera will announce his Bronx Education Corridor (BEC), which aims to create a stellar partnership among the district's colleges and high schools to foster the academic ambitions of the youth in the Northwest Bronx. Joining Rivera will be key leaders from the education community, including members from the United Federation of Teachers, the Educational Justice Political Action Committee, Councilmember Robert Jackson, the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, and Professional Staff Congress-CUNY. Rivera believes that giving children the attention they need, and giving teachers the respect they deserve, are the most important things we can do to ensure the success of our schools. The Bronx Education Corridor (BEC) aims to do that by providing exciting and innovative programs and projects that unleash the creativity of the entire education community.
In recent weeks, Rivera has been endorsed by Bronx Borough President Reuben Diaz Jr, former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, Bronx Councilmember Fernando Cabrera, former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu and a number of unions, Democratic clubs and progressive groups.
