Christopher Malone, Policy Director of the Gustavo Rivera campaign, released the following statement on today's New York Post article revealing that Sen. Espada's campaign filing showing a single, $17,000 check for fruits and vegetables is false:

"Whether it's stealing $20,000 from health clinics to buy sushi or lying about a $17,000 check for fruits and vegetables, Pedro Espada believes he is above the law. As today's New York Post makes clear, Espada's claim to have bought $17,000 worth of groceries with a single check is a lie and yet another obvious violation of campaign finance law. Sen. Espada needs to stop lying to the people of the Northwest Bronx and must come clean about who is funding his campaign and how exactly he is spending his money. It is unconscionable that someone who makes laws for everyone else cannot seem to follow them himself."
