(Bronx, NY) State Senator and Attorney General candidate Eric Schneiderman today endorsed Gustavo Rivera, a senate candidate running to unseat Pedro Espada. Joined by Assemblymember and State Senate candidate Adriano Espaillat, Schneiderman praised Rivera's commitment to reform.
"Today, I'm not just endorsing Gustavo Rivera for State Senate-I'm endorsing reform, I'm reforming leadership, and I'm endorsing integrity." said Eric Schneiderman. "For far too long, New Yorkers have lost confidence in their representatives in government. But for the voters of the Bronx, that's about to change. Gustavo will help restore dignity to the office, bringing fresh, new leadership to Albany. I'm proud to stand with him to support his campaign."
"If we're going to really change state government, we need a true reformer as our Attorney General-and that person is Eric Schneiderman," said Gustavo Rivera. "No candidate is more committed, has struggled harder, or has more experience in the cause of reform than Eric. He has spent his life fighting for what's right and as our Attorney General, he'll clean up our government, while fighting for equal justice for all New Yorkers. I am also thrilled to receive Adriano's endorsement as a dedicated, positive and effective public servant and as a strong leader in one of the most dynamic and growing communities in the Northwest Bronx. I look forward to working with Eric, Adriano and all the leaders in Albany dedicated to promoting strong progressive values that best serve residents of New York."
"I am proud to endorse Gustavo because I know he will distinguish himself as an agent of reform in Albany, advocating for progressive causes and honorably serving the communities of the 33rd District," said Adriano Espaillat. "I look forward to working with him in the State Senate."
The event was also attended by local Councilmember Fernando Cabrera who endorsed Rivera this week. Former Bronx Borough President and candidate for Mayor Fernando Ferrer also endorsed Rivera recently.
Schneiderman is the second State Senator-and the first from the Bronx-to support Rivera, who was endorsed earlier by State Senator Liz Krueger. Rivera's campaign is also endorsed by other elected officials including Bronx Council Members Oliver Koppell and Annabel Palma; Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, and Council Members Margaret Chin, Daniel Dromm, Daniel Garodnick, Robert Jackson, Brad Lander, Jessica Lappin, Melissa Mark-Viverito and Jumaane Williams. Labor unions supporting Rivera include AFL-CIO, 1199 SEIU, SEIU 32BJ, Central Labor Council, Communication Workers of America Local 1180, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500, Freelancers Union, Hotel and Motel Trades Council and Organization of Staff Analysts; Democratic clubs including 504 Democratic Club, Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club, Jim Owles Democratic Club and Stonewall Democratic Club; and progressive groups including the New Roosevelt Initiative and the Working Families Party.
