On this solemn day, New Yorkers, Americans, and people of good will across the world pause to reflect on the loss we experienced nine years ago.
To the families who lost loved ones, I continue to offer my deepest condolences. The senseless hate and violence which took their lives shall never replace or break the bonds of love that made your lives together whole and good.
To our courageous firefighters, police officers and first responders who ignored danger and faced down fear, we remain in awe of your heroism.
To our citizen-soldiers oversees who epitomize the American spirit in everything you do, we are humbled with gratitude by your sacrifice – and we await the day when you shall return home to your families.
Through the tears and wrath that September 11th wrought, we must remember that justice, mercy, and compassion make us human. Through the endless calls for war that September 11th wrought, we must forever seek peace and endeavor to follow it.
